But what about the ghost? Was she just chilling, and we are just supposed to accept she was casually eavesdropping on these guys a foot away from them? Or is there another meaning? I demand an explanation!

the ghost was a parody of modern japanese variety show segments where they show video clips of supposed “paranormal activity”. in those shows they replay the clip and zoom in on the ghost, even if it was really obvious. even the “did you get it?” was something that you’d see in one of those shows. the joke was that you thought the camera was gonna zoom in on the ghost but then it went to popuko and pipimi under the couch.
